If you’re preparing for the end of your tenancy, then you’ll want to make sure that you are doing it in the right way. There’s a lot of things you can do to get through your end-of-tenancy clean, and they all make a big difference to how quick and easy your exit from your rental property is. Let’s take a look at our 15 top tips.

  1. Always do an end-of-tenancy cleaning after you’ve moved out of the property. It’ll be a lot easier when you don’t have to work around all of your stuff. It also means that there is nothing left to contaminate your belongings if you use any strong cleaning chemicals.
  1. Start at the top of the property and work your way down. Remove all the cobwebs from the ceiling and the upper corners of the room. Make sure that you dust any light fixtures or overhead fan blades.
  1. Make sure that you give all the window coverings like blinds and curtains a proper dust or vacuum as necessary. If you feel it’ll help, have them professionally cleaned with the rest of the property.
  1. Make sure that you clean and degrease all of the appliances in your kitchen. This includes the refrigerator, the stovetop, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and other appliances. If you’ve used it, clean it.
  1. Make sure that you wipe down all of the kitchen countertops in your property. Take a look at the backsplash and the cupboard doors. They can get pretty dirty.
  1. Check the walls of the kitchen for food stains and grease splatters. They’ll need to be cleaned.
  1. Make sure that you empty all of the kitchen cupboards and drawers. Give them a proper wipe down before you go.
  1. Clean the bathroom properly. Every aspect of the bathroom needs to be cleaned, from the sinks to the showers and the toilets.
  1. Wipe down all the countertops and cupboard doors in other areas of the house too, all surfaces need cleaning.
  1. Empty out all of the bedroom closets and other storage areas. Ensure you check for debris and rubbish.
  1. Get all the furniture surfaces too. If you have any furniture which is on rental, this is important to keep clean too.
  1. Get the rest of the house clean and tidy too. Trust us when we say it – it will make a big difference to your cleanliness if it is done properly and all at once.
  1. The hoover is your friend – use it regularly. You should also think about how you’re going to clean more deeply with tools like a steam cleaner.
  1. You can use a damp towel on the floor as a way to make sure it’s clean – when it comes up clean, you’re good to go.
  1. Hire a professional and make cleaning a snap. They’ll get it done for you with no issues. A good cleaning service makes the end of a tenancy an easy job – you should definitely take advantage of it!
